ConRAC @ LAX Project

Performance Utility Supply has been hard at work delivering temp power solutions to our friends over at Morrow Meadows. The electrical contractor is currently busy working on one of the major components to the LAX landside access modernization program, the Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility. Also known as ConRAC, The facility, whose groundbreaking ceremony was led by Mayor Eric Garcetti, will centralize rental car operations currently spread across the surrounding area of LAX.

Since 2009, Mayor Garcetti has led a $14 Billion transformation for LAX creating thousands of jobs in the process. “We are building a world-class airport that travelers need and deserve,” said Garcetti. “Our city is doing so much more than building a parking structure — we are making an investment that will improve the traveling experience, reduce congestion in surrounding neighborhoods, and create middle-class careers for years to come.”  https://www.lamayor.org/mayor-garcetti-and-los-angeles-world-airports-break-ground-historic-consolidated-rental-car-facility

The ConRAC facility will provide direct connection to LAX’s Automated People Mover (APM) train system. With this direct connection, rental car shuttles will no longer be needed to shuttle customers to and from the Central Terminal Area (CTA), which will result in the elimination of more than 3,200 daily rental car shuttle trips on the surrounding streets and into and out of the CTA.

It also features a Quick Turn Around (QTA) area, allowing for the light maintenance of vehicles such as car washing, oil changes and tire rotation. This QTA facility will help alleviate traffic congestion by keeping operations within the footprint of the facility and not out on the city streets. https://www.lawa.org/en/connectinglax/consolidated-rent-a-car-facility

We are so grateful that we get to play a small part in the process of historical development for the great City of Angels. It takes a community of contractors and businesses like ours to make progress happen. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2023 and we can’t wait to see how this new change to the landscape of LAX changes the infrastructure and outlying communities. We know it will be for the better.

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Project

Star+Wars+Land-Rendering-Blog.jpg

One of the coolest projects that we’ve ever been a part of is about to open its doors and we are all pretty excited for it. Star Wars Land, now being called Galaxy’s Edge at the Happiest Place On Earth, will be opening ahead of schedule come May 31st. The big wigs over at the Mouse’s House are all saying that the schedule modification stems from the tremendous amount of interest coming from visiting patrons. That may be true, but we believe those patrons have an army of contractors to thank for the early access. Hundreds of crews from every trade in the book worked tirelessly over the last few years, usually overnight, busting their ass to get the job done early and we were glad to help them get the job done.

To get an idea of the size of this project, here is a picture of one structure under construction last year and then the completed structure surrounded by the rest of the Galaxy’s Edge, including a life size version of the Millenium Falcon this year. The Falcon will be the set for one of the parks coolest attractions, Smuggler’s Run.

Performance Utility Supply provided over a 150 Miles of PVC pipe to our friends at Morrow Meadows, who was part of that army doing the dirty work. Along with the PVC, PUS supplied 3000 feet of Prefab Duct Banks like those shown here. Performance Utility Supply is dedicated to the underground contractor..

When the attraction opens May 31st, Star Wars fans young and old will get the chance to experience a Galaxy Far, Far Away. But, you might want to check out the park blog from time to time to see about reserving tickets to the attraction. You won’t be able to get in with just your ticket to the park. Kaiser Permantente San Diego Central Hospital

Kaiser Permanente has begun construction in Kearny Mesa on it's first new hospital in San Diego in 40 years. Founded in 1945, Kaiser Permanente is one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans, serving approximately 9.3 million members. With 528,000 San Diego County members, Kaiser is one of the region's largest health providers.

“Kaiser Permanente’s new central hospital will be a high tech hospital of the future,” said Mary Ann Barnes, senior vice president and executive director for Kaiser Permanente San Diego. “From green design to the latest technology, it will have all the tools to provide our members with the highest quality care in a beautiful, healing and nurturing environment.”

The 565,000 square feet facility will be built on 19 acres of land with a 1,400 space parking structure, wrap around healing garden and gourmet cafeteria. Inside the seven-story building will be 450 patient rooms which will feature sophisticated technology in telehealth, digital way-finding, clinical informatics and communication. Some of the technology includes patient remote-controlled room environments for blinds, lights, and temperature, plus an interactive entertainment wall for internet, movies, and video chats.

GOING GREEN
The central hospital will be the first in California to earn the LEED Gold health care hospital certification. Besides energy-efficient electrical, air, and plumbing, it will be the first hospital in the nation to use all LED lighting throughout. They will take advantage of natural lighting, a solar photovoltaic system, and active chilled beams in patient rooms. The use of reclaimed water will be for landscaping and the cooling towers.

Working with electrical contractor Morrow-Meadows, Performance Utility Supply has been delivering materials to the Kaiser Permanente jobsite since February 2014.

MATERIALS INCLUDE:
Various sizes on SCH40 conduit, fittings, bends, segments
Glue, empty quart cans and rollers

Korey took a trip to the jobsite in May and you can see the progress on the P.U.S. Instagram.
